Robert Clohessy has won the best actor award at numerous film festivals and shared in the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series for his role on the acclaimed HBO series “Boardwalk Empire.” He is now entering his tenth season playing Sid Gormley on CBS’ “Blue Bloods.” Though he had a cameo in 2012’s The Avengers, his largest big-budget film role to date came opposite Bradley Cooper in The Place Beyond the Pines. Clohessy also played supporting roles in Across the Universe and The Crimson Mask.
The actor was born in the Bronx, New York, the son of police officer John Clohessy, and graduated from SUNY Purchase. He fought in the 1975 Golden Gloves competition at Madison Square Garden. The following season Clohessy was cast on the ABC detective series “Ohara” and he later joined the cast of the HBO prison drama “Oz,” appeared on NBC’s dramedy “Tattingers,” co- starred on the ABC sitcom “Laurie Hill” and booked a series regular role on Fox’s “New Amsterdam.” On Broadway the actor was seen in “Pal Joey” and “12 Angry Men.”
