More recently, Gorenstein produced the highly anticipated film Polar, directed by legendary music video director Jonas Åkerlund whose music videos for such artists as Beyoncé, Madonna, U2, Lady Gaga, Metallica, Coldplay, Rolling Stones, Britney Spears, and Smashing Pumpkins have won him numerous Grammy and MTV Music Video Awards.
Other recent producing credits include The Grizzlies, by the first-time director Miranda de Pencier (who recently produced an adaptation of Chekhov’s The Seagull starring Elisabeth Moss and Saoirse Ronan). Shot entirely on location in the Arctic, the film is about a small town struggling with the highest suicide rate in North America, where a group of Inuit students’ lives are transformed when they are introduced to the sport of lacrosse.
Additionally, he produced Goon: Last of the Enforcers, starring Seann William Scott, Jay Baruchel and Liev Schreiber. Directed by Baruchel, the feature is a continuation of the popular hockey comedy Goon, which Gorenstein also produced.
Gorenstein served as executive producer on The F Word and the Copperheart Film, Wolves, and was involved in producing the new finale of Sony’s Flatliners starring Ellen Page, Diego Luna, James Norton, Nina Dobrev and Kiersey Clemons. Included among his more recent credits as line producer are the Sony Screen Gems films Silent Hill: Revelation 3D, Resident Evil: Retribution, The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones and All Saints Day, and Warner Bros. Orphan, which received a Teen Choice Award nomination. Other credits include The Lazarus Project for Sony Pictures, as well as Canadian director Clement Virgo’s critically acclaimed Poor Boy’s Game, which garnered three Genie nominations and Lie With Me, which was nominated for two Genies.
For television, Gorenstein produced three seasons of the popular series Man Seeking Woman for FX, as well as the pilot for the breakout hit series The Bold Type. He will next produce What We Do in the Shadows, a half-hour comedy series for FX based on Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi’s popular mockumentary horror film. The series will be executive produced by Clement and Waititi, along with Scott Rudin, Paul Simms, Garrett Basch and Eli Bush.
A native of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Gorenstein graduated from the University of Winnipeg with a B.A. He studied law at the University of Sheffield, England, graduating with Honors, and went on to receive a master’s degree in Biotechnical Law & Ethics, graduating with Merit.
