Matthew Plouffe oversees all aspects of Material Pictures, where he has been a producer since he partnered with Tobey Maguire in late 2011. The pair first produced three back to back features beginning with the story of American chess icon Bobby Fischer Pawn Sacrifice in which Maguire stars; SONY’s The 5th Wave starring Chloe Grace Moretz; and Craig Zobel’s Z For Zachariah, which stars Margot Robbie, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Chris Pine. In 2017 Material launched a new production-financing arm. That year, Plouffe produced and financed two films from first time feature directors: awardwinning music video director Ninian Doff’s genre-bending Boyz In The Wood, starring Eddie Izzard, Kate Dickie and James Cosmo, and Paul Downs Colaizzo’s Brittany Runs A Marathon, starring Jillian Bell, Michaela Watson and Lil Rel Howery. Material most recently wrapped The Violent Heart from writer/director Kerem Sanga, starring Jovan Adepo, Grace Van Patten, Lukas Haas and Mary J Blige. Upcoming projects include The Invisible War, based on the Oscar nominated documentary, with Amy Adams set to star, and a new feature from Damien Chazelle.
