He went on to serve as an executive producer for Warner Bros. Early in his career, Douthit became a proven innovator of television by taking a failing local television series, Seattle Today, from last place to first with an unprecedented 65 share. He later achieved national prominence when Ted Turner tapped him to work on several high-profile projects at the then-fledgling CNN. During his ten years at the network, Douthit created, executive produced and directed its three highest-rated programs: Larry King Live, Crossfire and Capital Gang. He also produced CNN interview specials with Presidents George H.W. Bush, Ronald Reagan, Jimmy Carter and Richard Nixon.
Douthit has garnered six Cable Ace Awards, four Emmy® Awards, and two Peabody Awards for How Come, and Larry King Live.
